Ma and Pa Heritage Trail
Project Description
Frederick Ward Associates provided master planning and related services for the Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation for the conversion of a 2.5-mile rail bed into a walking trail. After the study and planning phases, the below services were provided to convert the trail bed, which involved bridge crossings, a large steel arch pedestrian underpass, a restroom building, and full compliance with ADA requirements as an “Easy Rural” Trail, meeting maximum grades of 5% or 8% with landing.
Site development engineering design
Forest stand delineation and forest conservation plan
Structural engineering for stream crossing
Incorporation of water quality swales for SWM compliance
Wetland delineation
Topographic and boundary surveys
A subsequent phase of this project required services to connect segmented trail sections. FWA coordinated with various municipal and utility personnel to provide the necessary design services, which encompassed:
Trail alignment
Alternate, property and easement issues
Topographical surveys
Forest stand and wetland delineations
Stormwater management
Erosion and sediment control
Permit and construction document preparation
Storm drain re-design
Specs and cost estimates
